Bookkeeping for people who hate bookkeeping
Ledgerline makes accounting software for studios of one to twelve people. The existing product worked, but every screen had been designed by whoever was free that week. My job was to give it one voice.
We rebuilt the interface on a strict four-pixel grid with a single accent colour reserved for anything that moves money. Everything else is grey. Users told us the product felt calmer within a week, before we had changed a single workflow.
The component library
Sixty-two components, each documented with the question it answers rather than the props it accepts. The library now ships ahead of the product, which means the engineers design in it and I review rather than draw.
The engagement continues at two days a month, mostly spent saying no to new colours.
